Understanding Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a learning difficulty which can affect writing and reading, though it does not only affect these skills. Dyslexia can affect information processing, causing problems in literacy and organisation skills. However, dyslexia also has benefits; research has shown dyslexic individuals are strong in areas such as reasoning and in visual and creative fields. It is not a disorder or a deficit - it can have many advantages. Benjamin Zephaniah, a writer and poet who was dyslexic, once said: "The way I write, the way I see the world, is part and parcel of my dyslexia."
The Origin
How did Vocalise start?
I am an advocate for the neurodivergent, especially those with dyslexia. The idea of a text-to-speech tool came from the desire to advocate for the dyslexic, as reading and writing can be a challenge to them. By creating a tool that can read out passages or uploaded files/images in different voices and languages, I believe this tool could be very useful even to those without dyslexia.
βIt does not matter what sixty-six percent of people do in any particular situation. All that matters is what you do.β
Our Mission
To equip all ages with a tool that reads out an image or file uploaded by the user. We aim to increase productivity of users through the use of text-to-speech as well as an AI that can summarise text. Users can choose different voices to read text and can translate to many languages.
Our vision is a world where dyslexia is not only recognised, but celebrated, where neurodivergent individuals can thrive and reach their full potential in a supportive society.
